Cancellation Policy: Cancellation/transfer requests will be honored until 5:00 p.m. the day preceding the seminar. You will, however, be charged $99 if you cancel or transfer your registration to a different seminar after the link to the materials has been e-mailed by Virginia CLE®.
Full refunds or transfers are available up to two days after a webcast in the unlikely event that you experience technical difficulties.

Family Law—Aspects of Family Law for Real Estate Law Practitioners

Competence in the drafting of prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements, and property settlement agreements requires knowledge of basic aspects of real estate law. In this session, we will discuss the key aspects of real estate law that should be addressed by family law practitioners in their agreements to avoid ambiguity or an omission of essential terms carrying out the intended disposition of the subject real property.
Trusts and Estates—As I Live and Breathe—Or Not: The Intersection of Trusts and Estates and Real Property Law

Learn different ways in which real property can be titled during an owner’s lifetime and how it can be passed through to their heirs upon death. We will highlight some of the different types of deeds including Deeds into a Trust, Transfer on Death Deeds, and QPRTs (Qualified Personal Residence Trusts). We will also cover the estate and transfer tax implications of the different deeds, as well as their revocability. Lastly, we will explain how to interpret these deeds when encountering them as a part of an abstract—who the record owner is and who has what authority when it comes to signing and transferring the property.
Tax Law—1031 Exchanges—A Tool for Real Estate Investors to Defer of Capital Gains and Depreciation Recapture Taxes

Tax-deferred exchanges permit real estate investors to own the most suitable types of real property while leveraging funds that would otherwise be used to pay tax obligations. Taxpayers are able to trade into a different type of real estate, diversify or consolidate their holdings, or relocate their investment properties. This session will cover the IRS rules governing the process, a number of specific exclusions, and some strategies employed to meet requirements to obtain tax deferral.
