Do you know the rich history of railroads in Virginia? Did you know that Virginia is currently at the dawn of a new era of railroads and public transportation? In this presentation, we discuss the history of railroads and corresponding real estate law that has developed in the Commonwealth and nationwide since the 1800s. We discuss issues involving railroad titles and various issues involving railroad rights-of-way in Virginia. Lastly, we discuss the emergence of the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA), its enabling act, and the VPRA’s ambitious goal to connect the entire Commonwealth with public rail transportation.
