1:00 | Lunch Presentation: City of Lynchburg—Blackwater CSO Tunnel The Blackwater CSO Tunnel Project, called LYHBeyond, is a major investment in the protection of Lynchburg’s cherished waterways and the largest capital improvement project in the City of Lynchburg’s history. It will be the city’s most impactful project to date to protect our streams and the James River from combined sewer overflows (CSO). The Blackwater CSO Tunnel is designed as an underground tunnel nearly one mile in length and 12 feet in diameter, situated approximately 70 to 120 feet beneath the Blackwater Creek. It will collect and store up to 4.7 million gallons of combined sewage and stormwater during heavy rainfalls, keeping wastewater from overflowing into Lynchburg’s waterways. This presentation will provide an overview of Lynchburg’s CSO Program history and discuss the planning, funding, permitting, risk management, and construction associated with this capstone project. |
