2023 will go down in history as the year that generative artificial intelligence took the world by storm, including the legal world. Will ChatGPT replace some lawyers? ChatGPT itself answered our questions on that topic, as well as describing how lawyers are successfully using AI today and planning to use AI in the future.

As attorneys rushed to reap the benefits of AI, they often did so without considering the ethical implications of using this new technology. Were they leaking firm data to AI? Did they understand AI well enough to use it competently? How could they ensure that the AI itself was free of bias—or that it wasn’t making things up? Were lawyers properly supervising their associates and staff to make sure they were complying with the ethical rules when using AI? More than a few mistakes were made, sometimes with legal consequences.
