Taught by Herb Rubenstein, a member of the Virginia, Maryland, and DC bars since 1983, this seminar will cover a broad range of legal issues faced by small businesses today. Small businesses are well served by hiring lawyers at the formation stage to start off on the right foot and avoid legal problems down the road that can be costly to the business.

This seminar will examine ways the lawyer can help the small business not only assess legal risk, but also draft contracts with other businesses and strategic alliance partners to help expand the business. Further, this seminar will educate the lawyer on when and how to refer small businesses to other lawyers to handle specialized areas that may be outside the scope of the lawyers’ practice including intellectual property, cybersecurity, cryptocurrency, environmentally oriented legal issues, and other specialty areas. Law practice management approaches are included so lawyers and law firms can serve small businesses efficiently and economically, with suggestions for various fee arrangements that lawyers can use to be properly compensated over time from small business clients who in their early stages do not have large budgets for legal work.

Registration Deadlines:
Webcast:	10 minutes prior to seminar. If you register for a webcast the day of the seminar, your e-mail receipt will include a link to launch the seminar and download the materials.
Telephone:	Online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. the day preceding the seminar Call (800) 979-8253 to register up to one hour prior to the seminar
Live on Site:	Online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. the day preceding the seminar Walk-in registration is permitted on a space-available basis

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation/transfer requests will be honored until 5:00 p.m. the day preceding the seminar. You will, however, be charged $40 if you cancel or transfer your registration to a different seminar after the link to the materials has been e-mailed by Virginia CLE.

Full refunds or transfers are available up to two days after a webcast in the unlikely event that you experience technical difficulties.

Inclement Weather Policy and Updates.

MCLE Credit Caveat: The MCLE Board measures credits by the time you spend in attendance. If you enter a seminar late or leave it early, or both, you must reflect those adjustments accurately in the credits you report on your credit reporting form. A code will be given at the end of the seminar, which must be written on your MCLE form.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Herbert R. Rubenstein, HR Rubenstein Law / Lexington

Herbert R. Rubenstein, the author of Breakthrough, Inc.: High Growth Strategies for Entrepreneurial Organizations (Financial Times/Prentice Hall, 1998) and Leadership for Lawyers (American Bar Association, 2nd ed., 2008), has taught entrepreneurship at George Mason University and Colorado State University. He has represented over one hundred small businesses in their formation and early stages, often serving as a “general counsel” to many companies.

Mr. Rubenstein is a Phi Beta Kappa/Omicron Delta Kappa graduate of Washington and Lee University, a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar to the University of Bristol, Bristol, England, where he received a graduate diploma in Social Sciences, was an LBJ Scholar and received his Master of Public Affairs degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs of the University of Texas at Austin, and received his law degree from Georgetown University in 1982. He became a member of the Virginia Bar on October 4, 1984.

Mr. Rubenstein also teaches Leadership and Ethics for Virginia CLE^® as well as Typical Legal Issues Facing Non-profit Businesses. He is also the Co-Founder of The Web3 Company, LLC, a Virginia company, and a PGA member.
