For more than 40 years, this program, cosponsored with the Family Law Section of the Virginia State Bar, has offered family law attorneys from across Virginia an opportunity to stay up to date on new developments. Best Practices in Complying with Scheduling Orders

This session will review why it is easy to forget but vitally important to be cognizant of any scheduling orders entered in your case. It will explore best practices in complying with scheduling orders so that your trial strategy is not impacted unexpectedly as a result of missed deadlines.
The Dollars and Sense of Divorce
Cecile Hult

This session will explore the role of the Certified Divorce Financial Analyst professional in the divorce process. It will include a case study analysis on the topics of dividing the marital estate, spousal support, and what parties and counsel need to consider in this context. These considerations include making sense of a complex portfolio, how to address assets that can’t be divided, budget analysis and need for support, addressing liquidity needs during and post-divorce, long-term financial implications of a property settlement agreement, and tax issues.
Preservation of Errors for Appeal: Appellate Practice During the Trial

This session will explore what a family law attorney needs to be aware of at a trial court level to prepare a successful appeal.
