With over twenty-five years of experience in family law matters and small-business transactions and litigation, Julie Hottle Day brings a business sensibility to her divorce practice that benefits her clients in the short and long term. She and her team are known for their attention to detail and depth of preparation on behalf of their clients, whether engaging in litigation or alternative dispute resolution. Their focus is on resolving complex issues to create solutions that will be of long-term benefit to clients, their family members, and their businesses.
An active member of the Virginia State Bar since 1991, Ms. Day is admitted also to the Maryland State Bar and to practice before the United States Supreme Court. With a Northern Virginia office located in Fairfax and a Piedmont Region office located in Warrenton, she has conducted litigation in the Virginia counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Prince William, Loudoun, Fauquier, Stafford, Culpeper, and Orange, as well as in the city of Alexandria. Ms. Day carries numerous professional distinctions, including being named to the Virginia Super Lawyers list as among the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Virginia and as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Virginia; named as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers by Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers; carrying an AV(TM) rating from Martindale Hubbell; and appearing regularly on top lawyer lists in publications such as Washingtonian magazine, Virginia Business magazine, and Northern Virginia magazine. Ms. Day is a member of the Virginia Bar Association, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and the Family Law subsection of the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. She is also a member of the Fairfax County Bar Association and is an associate member of the Fauquier Bar Association. A frequent public speaker in continuing legal education and other professional settings, she addresses business and divorce issues as well as work-life balance for attorneys. She has appeared on CoParenting101.org as a guest interviewee commenting on divorce, and is published in Family Law News on issues pertaining to the handling of business assets in divorce matters.

David Masterman has served as chair of the family law section of the Arlington County Bar Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and, more recently, the Virginia State Bar. He served on the Board of Governors for the Family Law Section for six years and later on the Board of Governors of the General Practice Section of the Virginia State Bar for two years. He is currently the Chair of the Board of Governors of the Diversity Conference of the Virginia State Bar.
Mr. Masterman frequently lectures to other family law attorneys at both basic and advanced family law seminars, with topics ranging from the issues involved in divorce following short marriages, the effects of parental relocation on child custody arrangements, enforcement and setting aside of agreements, obtaining the best possible property division in divorce, and issues affecting custody of children, as well as the ethical rules applicable to attorneys in this practice field. He is also the author of materials used as resources by other attorneys.
Mr. Masterman received his undergraduate degree with honors from Grinnell College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Mr. Masterman carries the “AV” rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating for skill and ethics, and is listed in its volume on pre-eminent attorneys in the United States. He has been recognized and listed in The Best Lawyers in America, and he has been ranked as one of the top family lawyers by the Washingtonian and Washington Post magazines. He is listed in the Ten Leaders for Domestic Relations Attorneys for Northern Virginia. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
Mr. Masterman was the 2020 recipient of the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section’s Betty A. Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award.
Mr. Masterman practices in all aspects of family law, except adoption matters. He most commonly appears in the circuit courts of Fairfax County, Loudoun County, the City of Alexandria, and Arlington County, but also regularly represents parties in Prince William and Fauquier Counties.
His interests outside the law include cats, and occasionally other things.
