An overview of U.S. bankruptcy, from the vantage point of debtors, whether individuals or businesses, covering both consumer and non-consumer matters. This seminar will cover the main provisions of the Bankruptcy Code and court rules, the key players in bankruptcy cases, types of bankruptcy cases, eligibility requirements, the bankruptcy estate, the automatic stay, conversion of cases, priority debt matters, conversion of cases to different chapters, effects of discharge, and the reopening of cases.

Webcast: 10 minutes prior to seminar. If you register for a webcast the day of the seminar, your e-mail receipt will include a link to launch the seminar and download the materials.
Telephone: Online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. the day preceding the seminar
Call (800) 979-8253 to register up to one hour prior to the seminar

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation/transfer requests will be honored until 5:00 p.m. the day preceding the seminar. You will, however, be charged $40 if you cancel or transfer your registration to a different seminar after the link to the materials has been e-mailed by Virginia CLE.

Full refunds or transfers are available up to two days after a webcast in the unlikely event that you experience technical difficulties.

MCLE Credit Caveat: The MCLE Board measures credits by the time you spend in attendance. If you enter a seminar late or leave it early, or both, you must reflect those adjustments accurately in the credits you report on your credit reporting form. A code will be given at the end of the seminar, which must be written on your MCLE form.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Kelly M. Barnhart, Roussos & Barnhart, PLC / Norfolk
Kelly M. Barnhart is a member of Roussos & Barnhart, PLC, and she primarily focuses on helping businesses and business owners deal with financial matters but also represents trustees and creditors in bankruptcy proceedings.

Ms. Barnhart attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College, and in 1998 she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science. In 2002, she received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law and enjoyed spending her last year of law school as a visiting student at the University of Notre Dame School of Law.

Ms. Barnhart is a former President of the Tidewater Bankruptcy Bar Association, a former Chair of the Bankruptcy Section of the Virginia Bar Association’s Bankruptcy Section, and is currently on the Board of the Bankruptcy Section of the Virginia State Bar and the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation. 

Ms. Barnhart has been selected as a “Rising Star,” which selection continued through December of 2012 and following that she has been selected as a “Super Lawyer” every year since 2013.  She has also been selected and listed as a member of Virginia’s “Legal Elite” (Bankruptcy/Creditors’ Rights) since 2015.  She has also been named to the Lawdragon 500 Leading U.S. Bankruptcy and Restructuring Lawyers list and inducted into Marquis Who’s Who, which will be published in the upcoming 74th edition of Who’s Who in America.
