This session will review income basics in the context of support decisions, with a discussion of the impacts of COVID-19 Stimulus Payments and the new Child Tax Credit Payments.
Understanding Childhood Trauma
Dr. Allison Sampson-Jackson, Jennifer M. Newman

The speakers will highlight the physical, medical, and mental health aspects of trauma, often caused by child abuse and neglect, to better inform and prepare attorneys who work with families and children.
Tax Issues for Family Law Attorneys
William E. Kunz

This session will provide an overview on how to read personal and business tax returns to identify income and potential hidden assets. It will review W2s and what family law attorneys need to know for support purposes. Finally it will cover what things to look for in divorces that might create taxable events.
Ethics and Civility in the Practice of Law?
Daniel L. Gray

This session will explore how to maintain civility in the profession while remaining ethical. Specifically, this session will address attorneys’ roles as advocates (Rules 3.1-3.9) and the duties imposed on attorneys when interacting with third parties (Rules 4.1-4.4). This session will also explore recent high-profile cases, the attorneys involved, and provide a what not to-do as it relates to ethics and civility.
