THE ONLINE CONCERT: TROUBADOUR 77

Troubadour 77, also referred to as T77, is an American duo featuring Anna Wilson (Piano/Lead Vocals) and Monty Powell (Guitar/Vocals), who are forging a sound and spirit that celebrates the tradition of the American troubadour. Their compelling performances are rich with raw and honest emotion, and their songs sing of social change, life, death, love, and redemption that play like musical love letters to their influences, the troubadours of the Laurel Canyon era.

Powell is a highly decorated songwriter, having been named SESAC’s Songwriter and Publisher of the Year, a recipient of the CMA Triple Play Award for penning three #1 songs in one calendar year, and three decades of other songwriting honors. Perhaps his most treasured accomplishment is “For You,” which he co-wrote with Keith Urban for the movie Act of Valor. The song topped the country chart, achieving Gold record sales status, and earned him Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award nominations for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture.

In addition to his many chart-topping collaborations with Urban over the years, Powell has penned #1 hits for Tim McGraw, Billy Ray Cyrus, Diamond Rio, Colin Raye, Brooks & Dunn, and his songs appear on over 60 million records. He has been recognized as the CMA Producer of the Year for his contribution to Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles, produces Wilson’s recording projects, and is an artist in his own right, releasing his own solo record called 47 Minutes of Your Time.

For her part, Wilson is a critically acclaimed artist with a voice that Jazz Times likens to “crème de cocoa.” Her most recent solo project, Jazzbird/Songbird (Transfer Records), was released to rave reviews when the album broke into the top ten and reached #9 on iTunes. In addition, she has been hailed as the queen of the country-jazz duet with her critically acclaimed Countrypolitan Duets album that is a collaborative project featuring jazz renditions of classic country songs. She is joined on the project by Grammy award-winning and legendary artists Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Kenny Rogers, Larry Carlton, Ray Price, Connie Smith, and more, and celebrated the album’s debut single “You Don’t Know Me” with American Idol’s Matt Giraud, reaching No. 1.

Additionally, alongside all of her many artist pursuits and accolades, Wilson is an award-winning ASCAP songwriter with songs on over 7 million RIAA certified albums, penning tunes for Lady Antebellum, Reba McEntire, Billy Ray Cyrus, and others, and she wrote and performed the international theme song for Habitat for Humanity.

Cost for the CLE program and the online concert is $65. Cost for the online concert only is $10. And as always, the entire share of VACLE revenue will support Virginia Law Foundation grants made to underfunded law-related not-for-profit organizations throughout the Commonwealth.
