Julie Hottle Day, Culin, Sharp, Autry & Day, PLC / Fairfax
With over twenty-five years of experience in family law matters and small-business transactions and litigation, Julie Hottle Day brings a business sensibility to her divorce practice that benefits her clients in the short and long term. She and her team are known for their attention to detail and depth of preparation on behalf of their clients, whether engaging in litigation or alternative dispute resolution. Their focus is on resolving complex issues to create solutions that will be of long-term benefit to clients, their family members, and their businesses.
An active member of the Virginia State Bar since 1991, Ms. Day is admitted also to the Maryland State Bar and to practice before the United States Supreme Court. With a Northern Virginia office located in Fairfax and a Piedmont Region office located in Warrenton, she has conducted litigation in the Virginia counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Prince William, Loudoun, Fauquier, Stafford, Culpeper, and Orange, as well as in the city of Alexandria. Ms. Day carries numerous professional distinctions, including being named to the Virginia Super Lawyers list as among the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Virginia and as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Virginia; named as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers by Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers, carrying an AV(TM) rating from Martindale Hubbell, and appearing regularly on top lawyer lists in publications such as Washingtonian magazine, Virginia Business magazine, and Northern Virginia magazine. Ms. Day is a member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Family Law subsection of the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. She is also a member of the National Association of Woman Lawyers and the Fairfax County Bar Association, and is an associate member of the Fauquier Bar Association. A frequent public speaker in continuing legal education and other professional settings, she addresses business and divorce issues as well as work-life balance for attorneys. She has appeared on CoParenting101.org as a guest interviewee commenting on divorce, and is published in Family Law News on issues pertaining to the handling of business assets in divorce matters.
David D. Masterman, Masterman Krogmann PC / McLean
Throughout his 37-year career, David Masterman has volunteered his time in many roles for family law organizations, both local and statewide. He is a former chair of the family law sections for the Arlington County Bar Association and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and served for several years on the Board of Governors of the Family Law Section of the Virginia State Bar, holding the position of chair there in 1999-2000. After a brief period on the Board of Governors of the General Practice Section of the Virginia State Bar, he has more recently been a member of the Board of Governors of the Virginia State Bar’s Diversity Conference, where he currently is an officer.
Mr. Masterman now leads a five-attorney firm with Carolé Krogmann in Tysons, Masterman Krogmann PC, which practices family law exclusively.
Beginning in the 1980s, Mr. Masterman has been a frequent presenter to other family lawyers on topics ranging from the issues involved in divorce following short marriages, the effects of parental relocation on child custody arrangements, enforcement and setting aside of agreements, obtaining the best possible property division in divorce, and issues affecting custody of children, as well as the ethical rules applicable to family lawyers.
Mr. Masterman has prepared and argued numerous cases in the Court of Appeals of Virginia and is a well-regarded litigation tactician and courtroom attorney. He is a strong proponent of mediation whenever possible, and he frequently assists clients with that process.
Mr. Masterman was the 2020 recipient of the Betty A. Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section.
Mr. Masterman received his undergraduate degree with honors from Grinnell College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law.
