Information

Why Attend?

  • Learn both the procedural and the substantive arguments that arise in removals of complex cases
  • Be prepared to spot key issues

The opioid epidemic has spawned thousands of lawsuits around the country, many of which originally were filed in state court. In nearly every case, the defendants removed the suit to federal court, and motion practice ensued. This seminar will explore the various theories of federal subject matter jurisdiction raised in those cases, discuss how they were treated by courts, and cover the unique issues that arise when a state court suit is removed to federal court at the same time that a federal MDL (multi-district litigation) is pending.
