Information

Why Attend?

Larry Pozner, nationally acclaimed master of cross-examination, will teach you:

  • Structuring questions for optimal witness control
  • Effective strategies for dealing with witnesses who attempt to deceive or evade
  • Proper preparation for cross-examination

In this seminar Larry Pozner constructs and analyzes the optimum sentence structure that leads to witness control while blocking evasions. Using lessons from the field of behavioral science, he discusses how jurors and judges arrive at beliefs, and filter information to support those beliefs. He analyzes the mental process of the deceptive witness and teaches methods to block deceptive answers.

Adding the methods of physical preparation of chapters of cross-examination, Pozner explains how written preparation greatly reduces your stress while maximizing your ability to react to unusual answers. He explains how to employ neurological science to better position you as the storyteller, and as the most credible guide to the evidence. Providing easy and efficient techniques to aid in instant impeachment, he discusses how impeachments impact the minds of judge, jurors, and the witness.

Topics will include:

Controlling the opposing witness

  • Depriving the witness of time to deceive
  • Structuring the question to shrink the field of evasion
  • Grouping facts to tell winning stories

Page preparation of cross chapters

  • Elements of a page of cross
  • Page format samples
  • The power that comes from sourcing the facts

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Larry Pozner, Reilly Pozner LLP / Denver, CO

Larry Pozner is a nationally recognized trial lawyer, lecturer, and author. His book Cross-Examination: Science and Techniques (Lexis, co-authored with Roger Dodd), first published in 1993, is now in its 3rd edition and continues to be America’s bestselling book on cross.

Mr. Pozner began his career in the Colorado Public defender system and later formed a firm devoted to criminal defense and both plaintiff and defense sides of complex commercial litigation. His national civil defense practice has included law suits involving large and small companies, law firms, and corporate executives. For many years he has defended the Denver Broncos franchise in trials including the law suit challenging Pat Bowlen’s purchase of the team.

Mr. Pozner is a past-president of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America for Bet-the-Company litigation, and in criminal defense, both White Collar and Non-White Collar crimes.

Mr. Pozner has lectured in 48 states, throughout Canada, and in Brazil. As a teacher at the University of Denver College of Law he was voted Best Professor. (But, he wonders, that may have been due to his “nobody flunks” policy.)
