Information

A pre-recorded streaming video replay of the January 2021 webcast, Ethical Cybersecurity in the “New Normal” for Your Law Practice .

Topics Covered

  • Review the Rules of Professional Conduct pertinent to cybersecurity
  • Learn to defend against the rising scourge of ransomware attacks on law firms
  • Understand work-from-home technologies and their security risks to law firm networks
  • Develop secure implementation of the new technologies adopted by lawyers during the pandemic

Information security is key to the success of any law practice. With the increased use of the internet during our “new normal,” cybersecurity has new significance. The cyber risks are greater when attorneys and their staff are working remotely.

This 1-hour seminar designed for attorneys will identify the ethical rules that most often are involved with cybersecurity, including:

  • Duty of competence (Rule 1.1)
  • Duty to keep confidential data secure (Rule 1.6)
  • Duty to supervise both lawyers and non-lawyers (Rule 5.1)
  • Duty of communication (Rule 1.4)

Our speakers will then translate those duties into actionable and practical steps that lawyers can take in order to comply with their ethical duties.

Learn how the following can enhance your law practice’s cybersecurity:

  • Using encryption and multifactor authentication
  • Implementing backup solutions that are impervious to ransomware
  • Mandating cybersecurity training for employees
  • Developing security policies and incident response plans
  • Procuring cyber insurance
  • Developing rules for secure video conferencing
  • Establishing a secure method for connecting from home to the law firm network
  • Configuring law firm networks securely
  • Using Virtual Private Networks
  • Sharing files securely
  • Using business-grade technology for security reasons
  • Moving to the next generation of Wi-Fi
