As our society ages more people are becoming unable to handle their property or manage their care, and a lot didn’t make plans for someone to help them. The courts are then asked to appoint a guardian and/or a conservator to look after them. Virginia’s guardianship process is codified in Virginia Code Title 64.2, Part IV, as amended through the 2020 session of the General Assembly

This course is a nuts and bolts introductory level course for shepherding a guardianship case from intake through entry of the order appointing a guardian and conservator, their qualification, and follow-up. It is presented in the expected order a case would progress. As part of the materials, attendees get the presenter’s tried and true forms and the checklist used by one of the larger Circuit Courts in the Commonwealth.
