SO I JUST GOT APPOINTED AS A GAL – WHERE DO I BEGIN?

A good place to start is to look at the type of case you have been appointed to (i.e. is this delinquency, custody, abuse & neglect, child in need of services, protective order, … some combination thereof) and then ask the following questions:

  • What kind of case are you dealing with?
  • What is the law of the case?
  • What is your role in the case?
  • Are you equipped to handle this case?

Leslie Haley guides you through the intricacies of GAL representation and the considerations for GALs appointed in custody and visitation cases.
