Leslie A.T. Haley, Haley Law, PLC / Richmond
Leslie A.T. Haley has been practicing law in Virginia for over two decades. She has a unique combination of legal and business skills from her years of experience in private practice following her service as Senior Assistant Ethics Counsel at the Virginia State Bar, and her tenure in management and business development with Philip Morris, U.S.A. Prior to forming Park Haley LLP, Ms. Haley was in private practice advising lawyers and law firms across the state and nation on the application and implication of ethical quandaries and risk management issues. Additionally, she consults on law office practice management including policies and procedures. During her 14 year term with the Virginia State Bar, Ms. Haley provided ethics consultation to members of the Bar, answering hundreds of ethics calls each year, drafting written advisory ethics opinions, and writing and speaking on ethics issues as they relate to lawyers and law firms’ practices. She was staff liaison to the Legal Ethics Committee as well as the Standing Committee on Lawyer Advertising. Ms. Haley is nationally recognized for her knowledge, understanding, and experience in law firm management and business development that extends well beyond ethics applications and frequently serves as an expert in testimony regarding ethics issues. She is well recognized by her peers and profession for her lectures and presentations on ethics and the changing dynamic of the profession. During her tenure with the Virginia State Bar, Ms. Haley wrote and presented over 200 CLE seminars to her colleagues and associates. Additionally, Ms. Haley has worked extensively with the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia, Court Improvement Program in developing and presenting educational workshops geared specifically to the Juvenile Court system to provide “best practices” to assist lawyers and judges in the important work they do with children and families.
Currently, Ms. Haley is an Adjunct Professor at William & Mary Law School teaching Professional Responsibility and Legal Skills. In addition, she has co-taught Professional Responsibility at the T. C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond and assisted clinic students on the application of ethics rules and practice management in many dynamics including e-discovery and technology issues. Prior to joining the Virginia State Bar, Ms. Haley had been in private practice concentrated in the areas of family law, bankruptcy, personal injury, and real estate. She is admitted in both state and federal courts as well as the Supreme Court of the United States. Ms. Haley’s business background is a unique addition to her legal education. Her prior business career with Philip Morris, U.S.A. serves to supplement her ability to assist law firms in the aspects of law firm management with the appropriate selection of resources and policies to allow them to be competitive and compliant and avoid risk management concerns. Ms. Haley received her law degree from West Virginia University School of Law, spending her third year of law school as a visiting student at the T. C. Williams School of Law at University of Richmond. She was a member of the Moot Court Board at both schools. Ms. Haley serves on the Board of Supervisors in Chesterfield County representing the Midlothian District. She has been committed to giving back to the community, has been a strong advocate for education, and has been active in county government and state services for over two decades. She strongly believes in giving to her community, and her commitment continues serving the constituency she represents, Chesterfield County and the Commonwealth. Ms. Haley is a Master of the Bench with the Lewis F. Powell, Jr. American Inn of Court, a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation, Immediate Past-President of the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation board, and a past-president of the Metropolitan Richmond Women’s Bar Association. She is also a 2010 recipient of the Influential Women of Virginia Award. She is a member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers, the American Bar Association, and the ABA's Center for Professional Responsibility.
