ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Kay M. Creasman, Old Republic National Title Insurance Company / Richmond
Kay Creasman, co-author of chapter 12, “Residential Closings,” in the Virginia CLE® publication Real Estate Transactions in Virginia, is Virginia State Counsel and Assistant Vice President for Old Republic National Title Insurance Company. Ms. Creasman received a B.S. from Athens College, an M.Ed. from Tulane University, and a J.D. from the T.C. Williams School of Law, University of Richmond. Since 1976 she has, at various times, been a title examiner in the land records; taught at Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond; maintained a private law practice in the Richmond area focusing on real estate, small business matters, and wills; owned and operated a high-volume title insurance and non-attorney settlement agency; been employed by national underwriters as counsel in Virginia and West Virginia; and spoken at numerous seminars on real estate and title insurance. Ms. Creasman is past Chair of the Board of Governors of the Real Property Section of the Virginia State Bar (2018-19), 2017 recipient of the Traver Scholar Award issued by the Real Property Section of the VSB, a member of the Board of Governors of the Real Estate Section of the Virginia Bar Association (2019-current), past president of the Virginia Land Title Association (VLTA) (2003-04), and 2010 recipient of the VLTA Distinguished Service Award. She remains active in legislative matters, continuing education, title insurance, and residential property issues for all 3 organizations.
Kevin T. Pogoda, Old Republic National Title Insurance Company / Manassas
Kevin Pogoda serves as First Vice President and Virginia State Manager, Northern Division, of Old Republic National Title Insurance Company, and as such he regularly speaks as an instructor before various groups, including attorneys, realtors, and title/settlement agents. He authored chapter 7, “Survey Basics,” in the Virginia CLE publication Real Estate Transactions in Virginia, and he has also authored the current Virginia Land Title Association (VLTA) Pre-licensing course for title agents and VLTA’s Virginia Certified Title Settlement Agent course for settlement agents. A graduate from the University of California at Berkeley with degrees in Rhetoric (honors) and Legal Studies (high honors), Mr. Pogoda completed his law school education at the Santa Clara University School of Law and has passed the bar exams for California, New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland. While in private practice, his experience included SEC compliance, Indian gaming law, commercial litigation, labor and employment law, and not-for-profit litigation. Mr. Pogoda is a Past President of the Virginia Land Title Association (2015-2016) and recipient of VLTA’s Distinguished Service Award in 2017, which honors individual members of VLTA who have made significant contributions to, and an impact on, the success of the Association.
