A Primer on LGBTQ Issues and Update on Emerging Questions, Including Recent Virginia Legislation and Decisions by the United States Supreme Court
Legal issues relating to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community have been changing rapidly, particularly over the last few decades. As LGBTQ people have felt more comfortable coming out, issues relating to the LGBTQ community are more likely to surface in your practice. Whether you practice employment law, government contracts, education law, family law, or housing law, or if you simply want to make sure that your office is using best practices to interact respectfully and effectively with members of the LGBTQ community, this seminar is for you. Further, the Virginia General Assembly recently took action on several pieces of LGBTQ-related pieces of legislation, and the seminar will include a run-down of what that legislation is and how it will impact law in the Commonwealth. We will discuss recent decisions by the United States Supreme Court, administrative action taken by the Trump Administration, and the implications in particular relating to Title VII and Title IX.
