This seminar provides you with tips you can use now, and things that should be on your radar for the uncertain future. Nearly every law office has scanners and some means of storing electronic files. In spite of that, lawyers often complain of being buried in paper and unable to find the documents. If your law office is dealing with these issues, this seminar will explain how to resolve them. The future of efficient client file management does not involve banker’s boxes and file rooms. However, we are not talking about a paperless office; we’re talking about having less paper.

The second half of the seminar will deal with PDF files. As you may have noticed, PDFs are everywhere in the practice of law. They are used for trading documents with clients and other attorneys, electronic case filing, forms, and paper reduction systems (among other things). However, there are risks associated with PDFs, and mistakes can be costly. Mr. Henley will cover the skills you the practitioner and your support staff need regardless of the PDF program used. He will discuss PDF redaction, Bates numbering, and locking PDFs to prevent editing. This program assumes no preexisting knowledge about law office technology or PDFs, so everyone will be able to follow along regardless of where they are on the technology spectrum.

Webcast: 10 minutes prior to seminar. If you register for a webcast the day of the seminar, your e-mail receipt will include a link to launch the seminar and download the materials.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation/transfer requests will be honored until 5:00 p.m. the day preceding the seminar. You will, however, be charged $40 if you cancel or transfer your registration to a different seminar after the link to the materials has been e-mailed by Virginia CLE.

Full refunds or transfers are available up to two days after a webcast in the unlikely event that you experience technical difficulties.

MCLE Credit Caveat: The MCLE Board measures credits by the time you spend in attendance. If you enter a seminar late or leave it early, or both, you must reflect those adjustments accurately in the credits you report on your credit reporting form. A code will be given at the end of the seminar, which must be written on your MCLE form.

Barron K. Henley, Esq., is one of the founding partners of Affinity Consulting Group, a legal technology consulting firm focused on automating and streamlining law firms and legal departments.  He earned his B.S./B.A. (marketing and economics) and J.D. from The Ohio State University and is a member of the American, Ohio, and Columbus Bar Associations, and the Worthington Estate Planning Council.  He is a Fellow in the College of Law Practice Management, a member of Ohio Supreme Court Commission on Technology and the Courts, and a member of both the ABA Law Practice Management and the Real Property Trust and Estate Law ("RPTE") Sections. He's a former member of RPTE Futures Task Force, a former Board Member for the ABA TECHSHOW, and the former Chair of the Ohio State Bar Association Law Office Automation & Technology Committee.  Mr. Henley heads Affinity’s document assembly/automation and software training departments.  He is also an expert in launching new law firms, overhauling existing firms, and documenting and re-engineering law firm processes.  Finally, Mr. Henley teaches continuing legal education (CLE) classes throughout the U.S. and Canada covering a wide variety of topics related to law practice management, technology, and ethics.
