Why Attend?
Great facts and compelling advocacy should win at trial—unless you have a bad jury. Mastering voir dire is important!
- Learn voir dire techniques from an expert in the field
- Understand what questions are likely to elicit relevant information, and what to do with it once revealed
- Improve your results in both civil and criminal trials
Success at trial is dependent on so many factors as to be almost overwhelming. In the struggle for attention the voir dire process and jury selection can be relegated to secondary status—but that is a mistake. Seat a bad jury, or even a bad juror, and all of your other preparation can go for naught. Voir dire is a skill that can be learned and improved.
Dr. Jeff Frederick understands the voir dire process like few others. A noted researcher, prolific author, and sought-after speaker, he has helped countless attorneys strengthen their voir dire practice. Both expert practitioners and new attorneys will benefit from his instruction, which will highlight practical techniques for effective jury selection in both civil and criminal cases, including:
- Setting the Stage for Success in Jury Selection—understand what you can expect to learn by questioning jurors before you craft questions
- Tips for Voir Dire—questioning techniques that maximize candor and honesty, and minimize evasiveness
- Beyond the Questions: Pay Attention to the Juror’s Nonverbal Communication—visual and auditory cues
- Leadership and Group Dynamics—who is a leader, and who a likely jury “hanger,” and how that can help or hurt
- Jurors and the Internet—what to know and what questions to ask
- Supplemental Juror Questionnaires—should you use them, and what should they contain
