A Vacation Home Is All I Ever Wanted—Until I Didn’t: Advising Clients Through the Thrills and Agonies of Legacy Property Ownership
Michael H. Barker, Lauren A. Jenkins

Planning for clients with legacy real estate assets, like beach houses and mountain compounds, can be both technically complex and of the utmost importance.  Planners must often wade through tax traps, governance obstacles, valuation disputes, creditor attacks, and vicious fights to successfully keep legacy property in the family.  This presentation will discuss strategies, tools, and tactics to help planners address the thorniest problems that our clients often face.
Owning and Operating the Perpetuating Family Business

Many presentations at estate planning seminars talk about succession planning with an eye to a sale. This presentation will discuss the issues faced by family businesses that are owned and operated by the family with an eye toward continuing and perpetuating the structure within the family.
