ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Angela Morehouse, The Irving Law Firm, P.C. / Manassas
Angela Morehouse practices estate administration litigation, guardianship and conservatorship proceedings, and other elder law issues for which she regularly appears before local Circuit Courts and Commissioners of Accounts. She is a qualified Guardian ad Litem for both children and incapacitated adults, vigorously defending the interests of our most vulnerable populations. She also frequently negotiates and litigates family law matters including divorce, custody, spousal support, equitable distribution, and child support in both Circuit Courts and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts throughout Northern Virginia.
Ms. Morehouse served previously as a law clerk for the Honorable William D. Hamblen, retired, of the Circuit Court of Prince William County and worked for the Supreme Court of Virginia’s Office of Chief Staff Attorney. She also externed for Justice Elizabeth A. McClanahan, presently of the Supreme Court of Virginia, during her tenure on the Court of Appeals of Virginia. From 2013 through 2018, she was the owner and a principal attorney of The Morehouse Law Firm, P.C. but has recently joined with The Irving Law Firm, P.C., also of Manassas, Virginia. She received her Juris Doctorate from the William & Mary School of Law and her undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Old Dominion University.
Lawrie Parker, Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center / Warrenton
Lawrie Parker has been actively involved in mediation and restorative justice at the national, state, and community levels for 29 years. She a founder of the Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center (PDRC) in Warrenton and has been its executive director since 1990.
Ms. Parker serves on the Supreme Court of Virginia’s Dispute Resolution Advisory Council, its Mediator Complaint Panel and its Ethics Committee. Her state court mediation certifications include general district court, juvenile and domestic relations district court, circuit court-civil, circuit court-family, mentor, and basic mediation trainer. During her tenure at PDRC she has developed numerous services and training programs including elder mediation. PDRC is currently assisting Fauquier County Public Schools and Alexandria City Public Schools in instituting Restorative Justice as a student disciplinary option. Ms. Parker is past president and a founding Board member of the Restorative Justice Association of Virginia (RJAV), vice-president of the Virginia Association for Community Conflict Resolution, and is a past-president the Virginia Mediation Network.
In 2011 she received the Virginia Mediation Network’s Distinguished Mediator Award, in 2010 she was named by Virginia Lawyers Media, publishers of Virginia Lawyers Weekly and the Virginia Medical Law Report, to the Class of 2010 of “Influential Women of Virginia.” In 2001, she received an award from the Supreme Court of Virginia’s Office of the Executive Secretary for Outstanding Achievement in Community Mediation. She received a B.A. from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. the University of Mary Washington.
