Join us at our second Experience Philanthropy event for 2019. Our inaugural program last October led to a donation of over $3,500 to help fund Virginia Law Foundation grants, and we are excited to give you a fantastic experience and CLE program to help make an even bigger charitable impact this year!

For this program, after an entertaining, hypothetical-driven, one-hour CLE, we will enjoy a delicious dinner at RT's Restaurant and then head across the street to see Kris Kristofferson in concert at the Birchmere, America's Legendary Music Hall. Can we raise even more money this year? Join us and find out!

Cases are often won or lost before the advocate sets foot in the courtroom. During this fun, hands-on seminar, attorneys will be introduced to perhaps the most simple yet most important aspect of preparing a case—criminal or civil—whether at the motion, hearing, or trial stage. It’s so simple, yet most of us don’t do it. Here we will simplify evaluating the evidence of the case in terms of how to maximize its use and combat its use against us. Each time this technique has been taught, both newer and more experienced attorneys remark how easy and effective this process is.

In addition to receiving one live-interactive credit the day of the program, participants will also get four Virginia CLE Online Bundle credits good for one year to buy the live-interactive webcasts or on-demand online seminars of their choosing.

Kris Kristofferson achieved remarkable success as a country songwriter at the start of the 1970s. His songs “Me and Bobby McGee,” “Help Me Make It Through the Night,” “Sunday Morning Coming Down,” and “For the Good Times,” all chart-topping hits, helped redefine country songwriting. By 1987, it was estimated that more than 450 artists had recorded Kristofferson’s compositions. His renown as a songwriter triggered Kristofferson’s successful career as a performer and that, in turn, brought him to the attention of Hollywood, leading to his flourishing career as a film actor. Heralded as an artist’s artist, the three-time GRAMMY winner has recorded 29 albums, including three with pals Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings as part of the Highwaymen. Kristofferson has reached living legend status, but that hasn’t changed or hindered his creativity. His current CD, The Cedar Creek Sessions, was recorded live at Austin’s Cedar Creek Recording Studio. Released in time for Kristofferson’s 80th birthday in 2016, the double-CD set is a snapshot of the legendary songwriter in the twilight of his life.

Experience Philanthropy: As the educational division of the Virginia Law Foundation, Virginia CLE has taken the next logical step after the success of our Experience CLE programming. Your CLE is free and every single dollar of your attendance fee—less the cost of the event itself—will go directly toward funding the Foundation's 2019 grants. 2018 grants supported causes such as ensuring access to justice for Virginia's most vulnerable populations; supporting victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking with legal services; providing civil poverty law training to statewide legal aid attorneys and staff; teaching the significance of the Rule of Law in Virginia schools, and more.
