Why Attend?

What You Need to Know to Survive

  • Make your first—or next—trial as good as it can be
  • Revisit the basics: you can run better when you know how to walk
  • Share tips and best practices

October 31: Registration is still available for this seminar, but must be made via telephone at 800-979-8253.

Maybe your first trial is coming up, and you could benefit from some guidance on how best to perform. Or maybe your first trial is already long behind you and you want your next trial to be even better. In either case, this seminar will deliver.

This candid discussion with two of Virginia’s top litigators will prepare you for trial. Expert insight will help you sharpen your trial skills and minimize your jitters so you can confidently and successfully tackle your next case.

The seminar will address a variety of trial tactics and will provide practical, hands-on solutions to improve all aspects of your performance in the courtroom. Avoid embarrassing snafus, refine your presentation, and convince the judge that your client should prevail. This efficient training session will ensure that you conduct yourself like a veteran attorney.

Among the topics covered:

  • Voir dire and jury research as your first opportunity to introduce your case
  • Opening statements and themes for your case
  • Letting your witnesses tell their story through direct examination
  • Cross-examination tips and how to impeach a witness
  • Closing with confidence
  • The importance of jury instructions
  • Trial-related motions: motions in limine; motions to strike
  • Always have a spare shirt, and other trial practice pointers

Registration Deadline:
Telephone: Online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. the day preceding the seminar
Call (800) 979-8253 to register up to one hour prior to the seminar

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation/transfer requests will be honored until 5:00 p.m. the day preceding the seminar. You will, however, be charged $40 if you cancel or transfer your registration to a different seminar after the link to the materials has been e-mailed by Virginia CLE.

Full refunds or transfers are available up to two days after a webcast in the unlikely event that you experience technical difficulties.

MCLE Credit Caveat: The MCLE Board measures credits by the time you spend in attendance. If you enter a seminar late or leave it early, or both, you must reflect those adjustments accurately in the credits you report on your credit reporting form. A code will be given at the end of the seminar, which must be written on your MCLE form.
