Powers of appointment have been widely used by Virginia practitioners for many years. However, due to a paucity of both case law and statutory law, courts and practitioners have had to deal with much uncertainty. All of that changed with the enactment of the Virginia Uniform Powers of Appointment Act (effective July 1, 2016, and applicable to all powers of appointment). This presentation covers the seven most important aspects of the new law.
