  • Federal laws impacting adoption, to include: Servicemembers Civil Relief Act; Adoption Tax Credit; Indian Child Welfare Act

  • Ethics in adoption practice and red flags

Families are being formed and built in many different ways today. There are the traditional public and private agency placements, direct parental placement adoptions (with many matches occurring through the Internet and social media, including Facebook and Craigslist), close relative/kinship and stepparent, special needs and foster care adoptions, inter-country guardianships and adoptions, readoptions, special immigrant juvenile status placements, embryo donations versus “adoptions,” surrogacy and various other placements through the expanding area of assisted reproduction. With such diversity in family building, practitioners must broaden their knowledge and improve their tool sets.

This seminar will provide professionals with clear procedures for the various kinds of placements, along with practical examples, to assist clients in this highly gratifying and never dull area of practice. It will be taught with deference to ethical obligations and within the framework of best practice.
