ABOUT THE SPEAKERS


Daniel A. Carrell,
Carrell Blanton Ferris & Associates, PLC /Richmond

Daniel A. Carrell is a founding principal of the firm of Carrell Blanton Ferris & Associates, PLC.  Based in its Richmond office, his practice focuses on civil litigation and commercial transactions.  A former Moderator of and a longtime Elder in the Presbyterian Church in America, he has counseled churches, para-church organizations, and other religious institutions throughout over 40 years of law practice.

Jack W. (JB) Burtch, Jr., Burtch Law PLLC / Richmond

Jack W. (“JB”) Burtch, Jr., practices law with Burtch Law PLLC in Richmond. Throughout his career, JB’s law practice has focused on labor and employment law, representing companies, educational institutions, nonprofits, churches and religious institutions, executives and professionals (including clergy).  He has had leadership roles in the Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, and currently serves as the Senior Warden of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Richmond. 

Douglas R. Burtch, Burtch Law PLLC / Richmond

Douglas R. Burtch is owner and principal of Burtch Law PLLC in Richmond.  His practice focuses on employment law matters, while also encompassing school law, aspects of administrative and healthcare law, and business disputes. Mr. Burtch was born and raised in the Episcopal Church, has worked for church camps, serves on church boards, and regularly counsels churches, religious schools, and other religious organizations in his law practice.

Matthew D. Fender, McGuireWoods LLP / Richmond

Matthew D. Fender is an Associate at McGuireWoods LLP.  His practice consists primarily of commercial litigation matters, with focus on insurance recovery and environmental issues.  He is a Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church in America, and he frequently litigates religious liberty issues for churches and Christian schools.
