Creating an agreement that protects your client’s interests when a marriage ends is essential. Drafting issues extend beyond those ordinarily categorized as family law: taxation, retirement, and bankruptcy considerations can destroy the intended division of property if they are not properly addressed. The U.S. Supreme Court’s 2013 decision in Maretta v. Hillman, appealed from the Virginia Supreme Court, is just one example of unintended consequences when a marital agreement did not sufficiently preserve the parties’ plan.

With over one hundred forms and analysis by experts in the field, this volume enables practitioners to maximize the client’s share of the marital estate and maintain ongoing relationships with their children.
