Susan Carnell is a co-founder of Lorenger & Carnell, PLC, a boutique employment law firm based in Old Town Alexandria. In her practice, Susan regularly advocates on behalf of the firm’s employer-clients in all manner of employment litigation, including claims of discrimination and workplace harassment, wage and hour law violations, leave entitlements, and wrongful termination, as well as seeking and resisting the enforcement of restrictive covenants. Susan also advises in-house counsel and HR professionals on a wide variety of employee-relation issues, both the routine and the novel or complex, counsels executives through negotiating employment or separation agreements, and conducts both harassment training and workplace investigations.
Prior to founding Lorenger & Carnell in February 2007, Susan was a partner in the Labor & Employment group of Hogan & Hartson. Before joining Hogan, Susan worked as a litigation associate, focused on employment work, for Covington & Burling.
A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Susan graduated from the University of Virginia and then the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a member of the Virginia Law Review and the Order of the Coif. Before entering private practice, Susan clerked for then-Chief Judge J. Frederick Motz, of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland in Baltimore. Susan is licensed to practice law in Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland.
Linda M. Jackson, Littler Mendelson, PC / Washington, D.C.
Linda M. Jackson is a first-chair trial attorney with significant experience representing clients before federal, state, and appellate courts, as well as before administrative agencies and in arbitration settings. Linda has a particular litigation focus in the Eastern District of Virginia, also known as the “Rocket Docket,” and the state trial courts in Northern Virginia, including Fairfax, Arlington, and Loudoun Counties.
Linda is an aggressive litigator who reaches optimal business and legal solutions by understanding her clients’ business objectives, and pursuing pre-litigation and litigation strategies designed to efficiently meet their goals.
She keeps clients up-to-date as a case proceeds and advises them on their options at critical decision points.
Linda has represented clients in industries such as government contracting, professional services, supermarket chains, airlines, law firms, technology, health care, child care services, telecommunications, and commercial and residential development.
She previously served as a major in the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General Reserve Corps. In 2009, she was named to the advisory board for the William and Mary Journal of Women and the Law.
Linda received her B.A. from Amherst College in 1987 and her J.D. from the College of William and Mary in 1994.
