About Virginia CLE

Virginia CLE provides seminars and publications for new lawyers, general practitioners, and attorneys wanting advanced or specialized information.

Who We Are

Virginia CLE is a non-profit educational division of the Virginia Law Foundation. It is governed by the Foundation's Committee on Continuing Legal Education, composed of representatives of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, and Virginia's seven law schools. Our office is located at 105 Whitewood Road, Charlottesville, Virginia, 22901.

Seminars

Multi-day conferences, one-day meetings and half-day seminars are taught by practicing lawyers, experienced law teachers, and other experts. Registration fees include detailed written materials containing citations to leading cases and pertinent statutes. All courses are accredited for MCLE purposes.

Virginia CLE offers programs in almost all the fields of law practice. Most of the live courses are presented in Richmond, Northern Virginia, Norfolk and Roanoke so as to minimize the busy lawyer's time away from the office. Practical skills and techniques are emphasized. Seminars are geared to the needs of both the general practitioner and the specialist who is seeking advanced study.

Videotaped "replays" of many of the live programs are held at numerous locations throughout the state. These replays provide attorneys with access to seminars when distance or scheduling conflicts prevent them from attending the live programs.

Telephone seminars provide a way to participate in a seminar from the comfort and convenience of the office, using nothing more than a telephone. Listen and learn, even ask questions just as you would at an "in person" seminar. Telephone seminars are usually offered in two-hour blocks.

Online seminars are now offered which allow you to participate in seminars from your office or home on YOUR schedule. To register for online seminars.

In addition to our regularly scheduled live, videotape replay and telephone seminars, and our online seminars, Virginia CLE's "in-house" video service for Virginia attorneys provides the video tapes, written materials and MCLE forms - everything to set up a seminar except the TV and VCR. The customer determines the date of the program, and can even customize the schedule to suit individual needs. A minimum of 4 attorneys must be present in order to receive MCLE credit for "in-house" screenings.

Publications

Virginia CLE publishes handbooks, which are designed to give Virginia lawyers practical references in most major areas of practice. These professionally indexed handbooks are supplemented periodically to keep them up to date. The books are written by Virginia lawyers with substantial experience in their areas of practice. Many of them include forms on disk. To make it easier for owners to keep their Virginia CLE books current, Virginia CLE offers a subscription service for supplements.

The written materials from almost all of Virginia CLE's seminars are available for purchase. At the time these materials are produced, they often provide the latest available information on a given topic. Unlike handbooks, they are not supplemented after the seminars are over.

Some handbooks and seminar materials are available in electronic (PDF) format. Some entire books and some chapters and combinations of chapters are available for immediate download. Some books are also available on CD-ROM.

Virginia CLE Publications also publishes document assembly systems in the areas of estate planning and family law. These systems include popular forms that have been converted to automated templates to produce drafts of complex documents within seconds after a lawyer finishes deciding which clauses to include.

Refund Policy

Seminars:
Cancellation/transfer requests will be honored through 5:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m. for telephone seminars) of the day BEFORE the seminar. If you do not cancel or transfer to another seminar in time, and you do not attend, registration fees will not be refunded, but written materials are available upon request at 800-979-8253.

Publications:
Full return privileges apply on the print versions of all books and supplements. If you are not satisfied with a book or supplement for any reason, simply return it in undamaged, unmarked condition within 30 days of the date of shipment. Electronic publications are not returnable.

Inclement Weather Policy

We try not to cancel programs. If we can get our faculty to their live program, we will hold the program. If we can get our site coordinators and tapes to their respective video locations, and if the facility does not close, we will hold the program.

However, sometimes circumstances force us to cancel. When they do, we will post cancellations at our website.

Please note that when inclement weather is a factor, Virginia CLE allows registrants to either cancel and receive a refund, or be transferred to another iteration of the same seminar or a different seminar, at the registrant's discretion. These choices are available until two business days after the seminar in question. Please don't call us a month later with these choices.
