Virginia CLE®'s How-To Series consists of 12 dynamic programs focusing on the basic skills that every attorney needs. Choose your area of practice, or explore a new one! The programs will help you gain the edge in a variety of practice areas.

1. Will Drafting Techniques: Practical Guidelines, Sample Provisions

Every client who walks in your door should have a will. This program will arm you with the basics on drafting this important document. Why turn these matters away when you can equip yourself to handle them?

2. Drafting the Simple Revocable Trust: Practical Guidelines, Sample Provisions

This program will focus on both the "how to" and the "why" of trust planning and drafting. This is your opportunity to receive two hours of expert guidance on this often misunderstood area of practice.

3. Real Estate: A Practical Guide to Transactions and Terminology

Designed as an introduction for someone new to closings, or as a review for someone who handles only occasional closings, this practical seminar will provide the listener with a checklist of things to look for both before and during the closing.

4. Mechanics' Liens in Virginia

Mechanics' liens can be powerful collection tools. Learn how to create, perfect, and enforce a mechanic's lien, and examine the various defenses that might be raised. Special attention will be given to waivers, releases, and assignments of the lien.

5. The Basics of Bankruptcy Law in Virginia: An Efficient Overview

Learn how to file a consumer Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy petition, step by step. This program focuses on the documents that you need to collect from your clients, the power of the automatic stay, and the basics of what is involved in helping your bankruptcy clients get a fresh start.

6. Limited Liability Companies: A Practical Guide to Using the LLC to Meet Your Client's Needs

This program will explain the advantages of using an LLC, provide a basic tour through the LLC Operating Agreement, and give an overview of the tax issues. It is aimed at lawyers who do not have extensive experience with LLCs.

Learn the key issues for drafting basic employment agreements, including the executive employment agreement and the independent contractor agreement.

8. Intellectual Property: The Basic Law on Copyright, Trademarks, and Trade Secrets

9. The Basics of Criminal Law Practice

Learn what to do when you get "that" call from a panicked client who has been arrested. This program will focus on the practical aspects of the criminal defense process.

11. Personal Injury

This program focuses on the basics of a plaintiff's personal injury practice, including how to gather information from your client and other sources, how to negotiate with insurance companies, and how to get your case ready for trial.

12. What Every Virginia Lawyer Should Know About Divorce

This program focuses on the basics of separation, divorce, custody, and support. Learn what questions to ask, what documents to file, and how to spot the red flags.
