Search

The search form allows you to search upcoming live, video,
telephone, CD-ROM and Webcast seminar information, as well as the
detailed tables of contents of books and seminar materials. You can
customize your search with great precision and make it as broad or
as narrow as you like. Read below for details.
Search Information and Examples

Initially you can limit your search by checking boxes. For example, if you are interested in live civil litigation seminars in Richmond, you would check the boxes next to Seminars, Civil Litigation, Live and Richmond, and then click on "Search" near the bottom of the page. If you also want to specify a date range during which you are able to attend, create the range using the Month, Day, and Year boxes. If you are only interested in seminars with at least a certain number of MCLE credit hours, enter that numeral in the Minimum Number of MCLE Credits box before clicking on "Search."

The keyword field, located near the bottom of the search form, allows you to enter one or more words that a seminar description or publication table of contents must contain. This field can be used with or without other criteria on the search page. This part of the search uses a Boolean algorithm, which means that you can indicate the relationship between the search terms using the words "and," "or," and "not." For example, a search for information on service as a guardian ad litem for children might use the keyword search terms "litem AND child NOT adult," since there is a good chance that those terms occurring in the same description would find information pertaining to guardians ad litem for children but not adults.

The keyword search may be used in combination with any or all of the other criteria on the search page. For example, if you are looking for information on service as a guardian ad litem as described above, but you are not interested in books or seminar materials that include the subject, you could check the Seminars block at the top of the search page. If you are only interested in live guardian ad litem-related seminars in Norfolk or Virginia Beach during a certain date range, you can add those criteria to your keyword search. Be careful not to be too restrictive, or you could miss valuable information that is readily available through Virginia CLE. We recommend that if your search terms are fairly narrow you use them without any of the other criteria on the search page. That will help ensure you find every resource Virginia CLE has on your subject.

When your search results appear, you can click on the title of the seminars or publications to get more detailed information. Then use your browser's "find" function (usually CTRL-F) to find the specific text for which you are searching, and determine whether it appears to meet your specific needs.
