Want to know what leading practitioners have
to say about YOUR legal issue?
Can’t wait a few days to receive the handbook or seminar materials?
Find what you’re looking for NOW
in CLEPubsOnline.TM
Yes, the expertise of Virginia CLE’s authors and speakers is now available to
you on a 24/7 basis. Every week we are adding more online publications. A survey of 1,000 Virginia lawyers told us
it was important to publish electronic books because:
- they want instant access to information, or
- they want to search for terms electronically, or
- they want to copy citations and paste them into electronic legal research
software, or
- they want to include text in briefs or memos without retyping it, or
- all of the above.
Eventually nearly all Virginia Lawyers Practice Handbooks will be available
online. Most written materials from seminars presented in April 2004 and later
are available online a few weeks after the seminar. In addition, many individual
chapters and logical groups of chapters of books and seminar materials are available
for download. So you don’t have to spend any more time or money than necessary
to get exactly what you are looking for.

A few words about formats and downloading:
Virginia CLE® electronic books are contained in PDF files. In order
to make the best use of these books, you should use version 6 of Adobe®
Reader (available for download free of charge at www.adobe.com).
Version 6 allows access to files that are embedded in some books, including word
processing forms and tips on using Adobe® Reader. Files containing
books and seminar materials can be as large as 7 megabytes. Downloading a file
of that size can take from a few minutes to about 35 minutes, depending on the
connection speed.
A few words about copyright: Virginia CLE®
electronic products are protected by copyright law and are licensed to individuals
only. They must be treated in the same way as the print editions of books and
seminar materials. They may not be copied, made accessible on a computer network,
or otherwise shared by electronic or optical means. No derivative works may be
made, but the purchaser may electronically copy short passages to include in memoranda,
briefs, and similar documents.
A few words about prices: Purchasers who download electronic
books will save at least $8, because downloaded files are not subject to sales
tax, and of course there is no shipping charge. Electronic books are not returnable
or refundable. Why aren't they otherwise less expensive than books in print? Because
by far the greatest cost associated with print and online publications is the
staff time required to edit and format them. The additional staff time necessary
to put books into a truly useful electronic format offsets the printing cost savings.
