Have you been appointed to a Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) Civil Commitment case but are not sure where to start; or done one of these cases and want to improve your skills and knowledge? Have you not been appointed yet but want to grow your practice in this area of the law? This new course will take you step by step through a SVP Civil Commitment case so that you are more confident to handle the various aspects of such a case from beginning to end.

You will learn what to expect and how to handle these cases by hearing from attorneys from both sides, as well as from the bench and experts. Learn how to use expert testimony that can benefit your client. Expert presenters include: Dr. Mark Hastings, a psychologist with 20 years’ experience who has been conducting SVP evaluations for both the Commonwealth and the defense since 2007; Dr. Mario Dennis, who is currently the Director of Forensic Services for Virginia Center for Behavioral Rehabilitation, and established the treatment program for sexually violent predators at VCBR; Randi Lanzafama, the Sex Offender Program Manager for DOC, responsible for sex offender programming in the 43 probation and parole districts in Virginia. These uniquely qualified professionals will discuss evaluations, treatment, and how they can be used to benefit your client.
