Cosponsored with the Business Law Section of the Virginia State Bar

Congratulations! You have just been retained by an early-stage company to guide it through its organization, commercialization, financing, and exit.  As a business lawyer, you will need to plan for the future, without a crystal ball or GPS. To help your new client succeed and confront unexpected turns in the road, you will also need a flexible road map to navigate various crossroads and allow for alternate destinations.  This conference is designed to help you prepare that road map and update your knowledge as a lawyer to growing businesses.

Throughout a company’s life, management and legal counsel are confronted with an ever-increasing number of business and legal issues in real time, from choice of entity and structuring ownership and compensation, to identifying and protecting key intellectual property and commercializing products and services for successful market penetration.  Along the way, the company may need to raise capital, will likely have to hire and incentivize employees and independent contractors, and will consider strategic partnerships or business alliances with other domestic or foreign companies and even when and how to enter international markets.  Many companies will choose to grow in part through acquisitions of or mergers with other companies, all with an eventual sale or other exit in mind.   This conference will employ a unique two-day case study to provide practical and real-life legal guidance on how to address the myriad business, finance, tax, and regulatory issues that most successful companies confront in an increasingly regulated, technological, and global environment.

Video attendees will be given free access to view the segment Legal Issues of Raising Capital for Growth, for an additional 1.0 hour of CLE credit.  Details on redeeming and viewing the course will be provided at the seminar.
