Cars are expensive. A consumer experiences a sour taste in their mouth after discovering that the car they just purchased now has lots of problems, or cannot be fixed quickly or inexpensively. What alternatives do they have: it’s now their car, and it has to be fixed, doesn’t it? Repairs are a normal part of car ownership. Some cars, though, are abnormal in this respect, defying all efforts to be repaired at a reasonable cost. Some are sold with that knowledge.

Full refunds or transfers are available up to two days after a webcast in the unlikely event that you experience technical difficulties.

MCLE Credit Caveat: The MCLE Board measures credits by the time you spend in attendance. ABOUT THE SPEAKERS


John Cole Gayle,
The Consumer Law Group, P.C. / Richmond

John Cole Gayle, Jr. founded his law firm, The Consumer Law Group, P.C. of Richmond, Virginia, in 2001. He is a nationally known expert on consumer law, with concentration on the Lemon Law, fraudulent contracts, debt settlement, and Fair Credit reporting Act and Fair Debt Collection Practices Act cases, for over thirty years.  He is author of the 1988, 1990, and 1998 legislative amendments of  the Motor Vehicle Warranty Enforcement Act (Virginia’s Lemon Law).  Mr. Gayle is a frequent teacher for continuing legal education programs on consumer law, Lemon Law,  and litigation in Virginia and throughout the country.  He is chair of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association Legislative Subcommittee on Consumer Law, and is the immediate past Virginia Chair  of the National Association of Consumer Advocates.  Mr. Gayle received his B.A. from Hampden-Sydney College, cum laude, and his Juris Doctorate from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond in 1979, where he was on the National Moot Court team.

Erin E. Witte, Surovell Isaacs Petersen & Levy PLC / Fairfax

Erin Witte is an associate with Surovell Isaacs Petersen & Levy, PLC located in Fairfax, Virginia.  Ms. Witte specializes in consumer law, including automobile fraud, Lemon Law, debt collection defense, and predatory lending litigation.   She has extensive trial and litigation experience in Circuit and General District Court courts in the Commonwealth, and in the Eastern District of Virginia.  In connection with her consumer law experience, Ms. Witte has spoken at conferences and continuing legal education seminars for the Virginia Statewide Legal Aid Conference, the Northern Virginia Pro Bono Law Center, and the Fairfax Bar Association about predatory lending, debt collection defense, and auto fraud litigation.  Originally from Vineland, New Jersey, she graduated from Rowan University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Justice Studies and worked as a legal secretary after college.  Ms. Witte came to Northern Virginia in 2007 and graduated from law school at George Mason University in 2010, and has worked at Surovell since that time.
