Guardianship/conservatorship proceedings have become increasingly contentious, with challenges often coming from other family members or Adult Protective Services, in addition to those from the person alleged to be incapacitated. Cosponsored with the Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (VAELA), you will learn about procedural and substantive issues unique to contested guardianship/conservatorship actions, and how others have managed them. This program follows a composite hypothetical from inception to conclusion, adding in different scenarios to highlight other possible issues. Undue influence and ethics will also be addressed. Our panel of speakers is composed of attorneys who have represented the various parties and issues involved in a contested guardianship, providing a comprehensive view of how to handle the various issues that can arise.
