A pre-recorded video replay of the October 2013 live seminar, What Are They Thinking? Understanding Your Jurors.

Topics covered include:

  • Overview of Juriers, and Juries in Civil Trials
  • How Jury Selection Can Make or Break Your Case
  • Juries in Criminal Trials
  • A Judge's Perspective on Jury Practice
Trying any case in front of a jury involves a tremendous amount of risk. Jury verdicts are more often than not the surprise ending to a case that the attorneys were certain would end with an entirely different result. The challenge is that no two juries are alike, and a case presented to one jury may result in a defense verdict, while the same case presented to a different jury may result in a huge plaintiff’s verdict. Unfortunately, attorneys are severely limited in the amount of information that they can gather about prospective jurors.

This seminar is intended to give attorneys a greater insight into jurors’ behavior and attitudes by exploring recent discoveries in human psychology, data collected from past jurors, and the insights and experiences of circuit court judges and jury consultants. Together, this information offers new perspectives into what is going on in the minds of jurors at the various stages of the trial. With this information and insight, the practitioner is better able to develop trial strategies to take advantage of the hidden factors that may be influencing the jurors more than anything the attorneys are actually saying.
