Terminating Representation — Continuing Duties — Confidentiality.

    December 31, 1985

A client who retained an attorney to pursue personal injury and worker's compensation claims failed to respond to requests for further instructions and is now out of touch with his attorney. Nevertheless, the attorney is obligated to take all actions necessary or advisable to protect the interests of the client until the attorney has been discharged or has withdrawn by leave of the court. These duties include keeping the client fully informed, tending promptly to all matters undertaken and maintaining the confidences and secrets of the client. [DR:2-108, DR:6-101(B), (C) and (D)]
